Here we are little newlyweds, not knowing that the simple act of making dinner would become such a big part of our lives. I started out making spaghetti 2-3 times a week. I didn't really know how to make too much else. But Justin was happy.
Then I got brave and made homemade lasagne. Justin actually loved it!
Then I read this book. It didn't really tell me how to make good dinners but it did tell me why I should make dinner. I highly recommend this book to any married woman.
And then I had kids. Making dinner for kids is a whole different ballgame, especially if you have picky eaters like I do. If you have any tips for feeding kids, please send them my way.
My dad taught me a few things about making yummy dinners as a child. This is him showing us how to make sushi. He is an excellent exotic foods chef.
Here is one of our favorite dinners, yellow chicken curry with black rice.
I ordered this cookbook off of Amazon a few weeks ago. It has a ton of great info on cooking basics. I recently had a goal of making a two week mealplan but when I sat down to write it, I realized it can be easier than this. I just wrote down about a dozen of our favorite healthy dinners that we had all the ingredients of. Instead of assigning a dinner to each night I am going to pick one then cross it off until the whole list is made. I have realized that if I don't have the ideas up then I resort to mac and cheese or frozen pizza, just because I can't think of anything to make. I am discovering making meals from scratch can save a lot of money and trips to the grocery store. What meals are your favorite to make from scratch? Do you have a hard time figuring out what to make for dinner, too? Or is it just me? Anyway, wish me luck on feeding my family better food for less money without sacraficing the taste. Here goes...
Side Note: I have come to realize this whole blog thing is basically like our family journal. It's amazing. Sorry if some posts bore you but I've realized I blog to keep a family record of our lives and it is such a fun thing to go back and see what we did on a birthday or how our day to day life is going. Why do you blog?

My blog is like a scrapbook for me. I've just recently gone back and printed off my blog for 2007 and 2008 (still working on printing 2009) and put them in sheet protectors in a binder labeled by year, so now our posterity will be able to look back at them without having to use blogspot. I've really enjoyed re-reading the past couple of years. Posterity will really enjoy reading back on when our family first began. Blogs are the best.
I really, really struggle with deciding what to make for dinner. I really enjoy making dinner, if someone just tells me what to make. I need tips as well.
I love keeping track of life with my blog. I've even gone and back-dated a few posts just so I don't forget things as time passes.
Living with roommates really helped me with quick-fix meals. I haven't really come across any picky eaters so that might change as our family grows. I'm excited to look into that book!
I'm proud of you honey! You're finding out creative ways to make new things for dinner. It's hard. I like to make meals sometimes too. Just hard with the school and work full time. But I want to help out more. I love your Meatloaf, Lasagne, and Tuna Casserole. Keep it up honey! You're doing awesome! ;)
every night i would come home from my hiphop class i would always crave stir fry, which isn' so bad because it's healthy and takes about 10 minutes to fix! i'd just use the minute rice [total life saver in my opinion] and then put a bag of stirfry in my skillett w/ some soy sauce & garlic & i was good to go. and it's way inexpensive, like $1.50 for a bag at walmart :]
I blog and no longer scrapbook. The only pictures I even print anymore are ones that I frame. I have so much more time now.
Tyler and I keep a list of our meals. Once I fix it, it gets crossed off and moved to the bottom. I love it. We just pick the first 5 meals that sound good for the week. I'm surprised at how big our list has gotten. It's really helped motivate me to learn new recipes.
